The Galileo was a Federation Galileo-type shuttlecraft that was in service with Starfleet in the late 23rd century, attached to the USS Enterprise-A. It was shuttle 5.

History

In 2287, after receiving a Priority 7 alert from Starfleet and finding the Enterprise's transporters to be non-operational, Montgomery Scott dispatched the Galileo to Yosemite National Park on Earth. This shuttle, piloted by Uhura, picked up Captain Kirk, Spock, and Dr. Leonard McCoy from their camp site and returned them to the starship.

The Galileo later transported a Starfleet security force to Nimbus III in order to rescue the hostages taken by Sybok and his followers. Sybok was able to thwart their plans, and forced Kirk to take him back to the Enterprise aboard the Galileo. At the same time, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey commanded by Klaa arrived. With the Bird-of-Prey cloaked in preparation to attack the Enterprise, the Galileo, helmed by Commander Sulu, was forced to execute a quick landing dubbed "Emergency Landing Plan B".

The Galileo entered the hangar deck at full power, without the tractor beam for assistance, suffering severe damage to its undercarriage and shearing off the nacelles before it was stopped by a net barricade. (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)
