Gagarin IV was the inhabited fourth planet of the Gagarin system. (This system was located in the Gamma 7 sector.) In the mid-24th century, this planet was the location of the Darwin Genetic Research Station, a Federation outpost. (TNG: "Unnatural Selection")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the planet was named after Yuri Gagarin, the first Human in space.
The planet model for Gagarin IV was first used for 'aucdet IX ("The Child"). It would later be used for Galorndon Core ("The Enemy"), Barzan II ("The Price"), Jouret IV ("The Best of Both Worlds"), and Bilana III ("New Ground"). For its appearance as Gagarin IV, the model had a green color.
