A G1 star was a sub-class of a G-type star, known to be the source of civilized star systems.

Based on Spock's analysis of the insectoid ship, found in orbit of the dead star Questar M-17, he assumed that it must have some kind of warp drive based on how far their location was from a G1 star. (TAS: "Beyond the Farthest Star")
