Freak was a derogatory slang term used to illustrate someone who had different attributes from other people.

Julian Bashir considered himself a "freak" because he was genetically engineered as a child. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume")

In 2369, Zayra, Morn and several other Bajorans formed a mob outside Constable Odo's office and called him a "shapeshifting freak". The group was calling him this because Odo was accused of murdering a Bajoran man named Ibudan. (DS9: "A Man Alone")
