Template:Realworld Franz Josef Schnaubelt (29 June 1914 – 2 June 1994; age 79), a German technical artist, was the author and illustrator of both the Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual and the Star Trek Blueprints. The two Random House-Ballantine Books publications, which he wrote and illustrated under the names Franz Joseph and Franz Joseph Designs and which were both published in 1975, helped spawn a continuing interest in both the futuristic technology depicted on Star Trek and the schematics thereof.
