So, this is a new feature on Wikia wikis that can be found here: Special:WikiStickies. Things that it brings up include:

  • Articles that don't have any pictures
  • Brand new articles, which often need to be expanded
  • Article titles that are linked to, but don't exist yet

One page that can be used to customize this is MediaWiki:Nowantedimages. By listing items on that page, it removes them from the WikiStickies feed. The next question is (since there's a minimal amount of help information about them at the moment) just exactly how useful is this to us, and how would we want to use it if we do want to keep it?

If we don't want to keep it, adding the following to MediaWiki:Common.css will make the WikiStickies disappear from MyHome:

#wikisticky_browser { display: none; }
#myhome-sidebar .wikisticky_special_link { display: none; }

Thoughts? -- sulfur 02:34, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

I'm for dumping it. Of course I was, and still am to an extent, for removing the My Home feature completely. That being said, I can see a use for some of this, but we already have pages for the useful parts IMO. - Archduk3:talk 09:14, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
I don't think we should have to go and add a link to a list of pages that don't require an image there are 1000's that don't require one. So better to go the reverse and we already have...
So...the only thing I can see that this would provide is help for anons/new users - but in general they don't really read their talk page welcomes (I know I certainly didn't when I joined this site) so I don't see any help that this provides. — Morder (talk) 09:33, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
What instantly irked me when I saw it, yesterday, was the fact that it is a frakking yellow post-it, with ComicSans script on it, asking me to add a picture to the article Canon, pretty please... WTF?
It doesn't follow the design we use everywhere else, it doesn't use the maintenance pages and categories we use everywhere else, and with 30K articles, making us list the ones we do not want to be "posted" to some random users screen is really backwards.
If we want something like that, we could just add text similar to what we currently have on top of the RC page to MediaWiki:Community-corner. -- Cid Highwind 12:55, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
