I'll let the guys know that en. is definitely the better option. Hi all,

This is sort of a follow up to Forum:Moving the language codes. We've been looking further at the URL and how it's handled by our systems. The ops guys say that it will improve their load balancing considerably if we don't have any wikis using two-part domain names. That should increase stability and may have an effect on the site speed.

They suggested moving memory-alpha.org to www.memory-alpha.org - but talking to Cid on IRC it sounds like en.memory-alpha.org would work better for you? It would certainly be more consistent with the other language versions. Of course, the shorter URL would redirect so as not to break links.

Please let me know what you think -- sannse WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 17:25, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

I could definitely use some more site speed - MA has been very laggy for me compared to other Wikia wikis. I'd favor using "en" as subdomain, because all other MAs already have their language code in that spot. No need to become more inconsistent if we can avoid it. -- Cid Highwind 18:45, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
I'm for en.memory-alpha.org if it makes the site faster. I too experience very long load times on MA compared to other websites. --| TrekFan Open a channel 19:26, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
So, how does adding "www." or "en." make us a non two-part domain? That said, "en." is preferred.- Archduk3 21:34, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
"(en)(memory-alpha)(org)" is three parts, whereas the current "(memory-alpha)(org)" is just two. I guess that having a specific subdomain of the overall MA domain dedicated to MA/en (instead of using the "main" domain name itself) allows for a more thorough load balancing than just round-robin DNS. -- Cid Highwind 22:16, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
OK, that makes more sense. Thanks Cid. :) - Archduk3 22:27, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
