There is no option in the "date format" section of preferences to display stardates. Is there any possibility that this could be added? I know that there are several systems in use, such as the one described at Template:Brokenlink (YYMM.DD), Template:Brokenlink, Andrew Main's FAQ, Modifed Julian Dates, etc. Any one of these would do, or they could all be added to the date options. Is there a better place to make this request? --Nike 04:00, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

This is the canon Trek wiki, and in canon, it has never been established how the stardate system really works. In fact, it has been incredibly inconsistent. For us to include something like that would mean going non-canon. --OuroborosCobra talk 04:04, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

What I am suggesting would not change the content of any article; it would just provide more options in preferences. None of the current date options are specific to the ST universe. And I am not talking about real stardates from the 23rd or 24th centuries, but just an option for displaying dates. BTW, there are a number of dating methods which look like stardates which are used in the real world, just as Julian Dates and their derivatives, which have been in use since the 19th century. You don't have to even call them "stardates" (even though they are used to date star observations) but it would be nice to have something that at least looks like stardates as an option on a Star Trek wiki. --Nike 04:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
