I was looking over some templates here on Memory Alpha, and working on some of a personal project of mine, and realized that I can't seem to do things how this project does, in terms of formating and coding. This lead me to wonder how it was done here, and if I could somehow copy some of this format, as I find it appealing and usable.

What I mainly wanted to know, was how such things like the fixed width, both for the sidebars and apparently the images long with it being automatically on the right, inside of a frame and the text on the left side staying on one line while everything on the right side, would automatically move to the next line. (The United Federation of Planets Sidebar is an example of this).

Basically, what I want to know:

  • Sidebars with a fixed width
  • Sidebars automatically on the right
  • Titles above the images in large, bold text
  • Text on the left column on one line
  • If needed, the text in the sidebar smaller then the normal font

I think I covered what it was that I am looking for, more or less, I am asking how Memory Alpha has their sidebars formated in the way it does, without always having to enter those variables in each and every sidebar template made. --Terran Officer 02:54, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Most of that is achieved via "CSS" a standardized way to add formatting instructions to a HTML page. The sidebar formatting is located in Mediawiki:Common.css (near the top of the page, all instructions containing the string "wiki-sidebar"). -- Cid Highwind 11:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
