When the SS Mariposa crashed and the survivors began to clone themselve, couldn't they also create clones of the deceased crew of the Mariposa ?80.254.146.140 15:42, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

As I said before, it was said they died when the hull was breached while entering the atmosphere. As such, there were likely no remains left to clone, as they were either incinerated or fell out of the ship.--31dot 01:23, June 28, 2011 (UTC)

I found that episode full of hand-wavium. By rights genetic engineering should have given them a way of fixing genetic issues that arose from having a small gene pool, but that would undermine the writer's story line. UncleRice 02:31, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

It's important to remember that this episode was produced in the late 80s and reflects the concepts of its time. At the time, cloning was a very vague concept even to most scientists, let alone science fiction writers or television producers. They would have been thinking of it in the most basic sense, of taking a donor cell nucleus and inserting it into a denucleated ovum. The idea of genetic modification of the sophistication you are thinking about in 2011 probably never occured to the writers at all. Bat'leth 06:44, October 1, 2011 (UTC)
