So, I've been noticing that some people have been going through articles of "in-universe" people that exist(ed) in the "real world" (ie Wright brothers) and adding in their birthdates. Now, we have had a number of discussions in the past about what kind of information these pages should really entail (including this one recently). I'm of the mind that these articles should not include information about their birthdates unless it was actually mentioned on-screen. We have links to Wikipedia for that information. Tied in with that, the articles should only note what was in canon (or what can be obviously extrapolated from the intention of the image's use, such as the aforementioned George H.W. Bush in the timestream). Thoughts on the matter? -- sulfur 18:46, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

A birth date to me is something that shouldn't change based on other differences in timeline, but that has happened, so it's best to not have that information at all unless it's stated in canon. - Archduk3 18:50, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
I agree. People aren't coming here to look up the birthdate of George Bush, Tony Blair, or the Wright Bros. We don't even know for a fact that they're the same in the Star Trek Universe, unless they were mentioned in canon(in which case, there's no problem) We should only state what's in canon.--31dot 18:52, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
The fictional version of real world persons or things are not the real world persons or things. (related discussion). Also, this is not Wikipedia. --bp 19:12, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the "we're not WP" reminder is a good one. If some information might be controversial, it is a godsend if it is unimportant and perhaps even outside of our scope at the same time. We could have a fancy background note that states how this person might be that person, and if it really is, what birthdate it would have - but why bother, if there's so much information about the person which we can't have on the page, and none of it is relevant to Star Trek anyway? Let's just link to WP and be done with it. -- Cid Highwind 20:53, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
