You probably won't have noticed (unless you scrutinise the format of Recent Changes like I do...), but we've just (i.e, within the last few days) had an upgrade on the MediaWiki software to its latest release version - 1.14.

Amongst the minor cosmetic changes, there are two upgrades of great importance, particularly to admins, since they are they only ones (as yet) who have access to these.

  1. It is now possible to change the length of a block on an IP address or username without having to unblock and then reblock.
  2. It is now possible to move images! This is something we've been after for some time now, as we've increasingly had images uploaded under bad or nondescriptive file names - until now, to rename an image, you had to delete the image and re-upload it at the new name. This resulted in the image upload history being lost. No more.

For the full list of things that have been changed, see this release notes document. -- Michael Warren | Talk 15:22, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
