Q forcefield

The Enterprise finds herself trapped by Q's forcefield grid. (2364)

An enormous forcefield used by the Q entity to trap the USS Enterprise in 2364 during it's first mission to Farpoint Station, which appeared in the form of some form of energy grid. During his first appearance on the Bridge, Q used a smaller version of the grid to deter the security attempting to enter the Bridge.

Q forcefield pursuit

The forcefield grid, morphed into a pursuit-capable form.

Attemping to escape it, the Enterprise found the grid morphed into a kind of fireball, launched in pursuit of them and overtaking their speeds quickly. In a quick descision, Captain Picard ordered emergency saucer separation, despite the extreme dangers of separating at high warp velocity. Firing a volley of photon torpedoes to blind their pursuer, the Enterprise evacuated it's civilian population to the saucer section and separated the ship, sending the saucer off to safety while the stardrive section turned about, becoming captured and encompassed by the grid, until Q eventually released them.

(TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")

On a relief mission, the Enterprise again was halted by this grid, so that Q could profess to them the Continuum's interest in them, Commander Riker in particular. After being given the powers of the Q, Riker showed his new powers to the Captain when, in a fit of rage as the alien creatures Q had pitted against them impaled Worf and Wesley with their bayonets, summoned up the forcefield grid to block the creatures further. With the crew returned to their ship, restored, and Q sent off to be punished by the Continuum after failing to convince Riker to join them, the grid was never seen again.

(TNG: "Hide and Q")

The grid was, however, mentioned in All Good Things...
