Ferenginar was an inhabited planet. This was the homeworld of the Ferengi, a warp capable humanoid species of the Alpha Quadrant. It was the capital world of the Ferengi Alliance. Ferenginar was surrounded by star systems, like Clarus and Irtok, that an invading force would have to conquer first.

The planet's capital city was primarily a series of low domes broken by a tall spire, the Tower of Commerce, which stood in the center of the Sacred Marketplace, and was the seat of power of the Grand Nagus, the leader of the Ferengi Alliance.

The planet was best known for its nearly constant, planet-wide torrential rains, rotting vegetation, and rivers of muck.

Location

In 2375, the location of Ferenginar was labeled on a tactical cartography map that was displayed in the wardroom of Deep Space 9. Ferenginar was located approximately fifty-five light years from Cardassia Prime and Starbase 375 and sixty light years from Bajor. (DS9: "When It Rains...", okudagram)

According to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual, (pg. 3), Ferenginar was located in the Bajor sector. [1]

History

Between 1947 and 2151, Ferenginar became warp capable when the Ferengi purchased warp technology from an unknown seller. (DS9: "Little Green Men"; ENT: "Acquisition")

In the mid-24th century, Ferenginar experienced rampant inflation and currency devaluation after the Great Monetary Collapse. Many accounts, including some belonging to Quark, were devastated. (DS9: "Homefront")

In 2374, after Grand Nagus Zek added an amendment to the Ferengi Bill of Opportunities allowing females to wear clothes and make profit, Ferenginar was plunged into financial chaos and a communications blackout was imposed. (DS9: "Profit and Lace")

In 2375, Grand Nagus Zek appointed Rom as the new Grand Nagus. (DS9: "The Dogs of War")

According to Star Trek: Star Charts, (pgs. 35, 36) the planet Ferenginar was located in the Ferenginar planetary system. The capital of this world, and of the Ferengi Alliance, was Ferenginar. In 2378, there were 78.2 billion Ferengi living on this world. The Ferenginar system was a single star system. The star Ferenginar was a M class star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol.
