Doctor Farek was a Ferengi physician assigned aboard the Marauder Krayton in 2366. He had a strong dislike for Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi, with whom his DaiMon, Tog, was smitten.
When Tog proposed a partnership with Troi, in which Troi would use her telepathic abilities to assist Tog in his business negotiations, Farek instead suggested performing invasive scans of her brain to determine how her telepathy functioned, with the goal of giving Ferengi telepathic powers as well. However, his tests on Lwaxana were interrupted when William T. Riker and Deanna Troi, also held prisoner aboard the Krayton, escaped and destroyed Farek's scanning machine. The three were rescued by the USS Enterprise-D shortly afterward. (TNG: "Ménage à Troi")
