Fantome was a member of a species that was native to The Void. He was encountered by USS Voyager in 2377 within The Void, aboard a derelict starship. Due to his large lung capacity, he was able to survive in an oxygen-less atmosphere for a certain period of time. Although incapable of speech, he learned to communicate with the Doctor using a system of musical notes. The Doctor took him under his wing, and named him after a character in the musical The Phantom of the Opera. He later assisted Voyager in its escape from The Void, along with three other members of his species. (VOY: "The Void")
