Europe was a continent on the planet Earth, and part of the Eurasia.
In the 2020s, Europe was affected by political problems. A guest at a party held by Chris Brynner in 2024 thought Europe was "falling apart," while expressing confidence that such troubles would never occur in the United States, an opinion that Jadzia Dax quickly shot down. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")
During the early 22nd century the European Hegemony was formed, a loose alliance which represented the first stirrings towards world government. TNG: "Up The Long Ladder"
By the 24th century, an European Alliance existed. (TNG: "The Price")
The European Alliance may have been the successor of the European Hegemony or they may have coexisted in Europe.
Other governments in the European region mentioned in apocrypha include the European Union (β) referenced in the novel The Sundered, the United States of Europe (β) referenced in The Federation FASA RPG Sourcebook and the Mediterranean Alliance (β) referenced in the Star Trek: The Motion Picture novelization.
