An ethno-botanist was a scientist whose study of botany was focused on regional plants and their relationship with the native humanoid life.

In 2257, Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets stated that a former colleague of his was an ethno-botanist serving aboard the USS Enterprise. (DIS: "Brother")

Doctor Beverly Crusher was an ethno-botanist by hobby; Captain Jean-Luc Picard was unaware of Crusher's interest in the subject. One on her experiments in 2367 was with Diomedian scarlet moss, which she collected well over a dozen spores from several completely different sources in the Diomedian system. After the USS Enterprise-D passed through a wormhole near the Paxan homeworld, that supposedly caused the crew to lose consciousness for thirty seconds, observations from her experiment actually indicated a full day's growth. (TNG: "Clues")

This hobby was presumably connected to Felisa Howard's use of natural remedies in her work as a healer, which inspired Crusher to her career in medicine, abilities Crusher demonstrated knowledge with herself in "The Arsenal of Freedom".
