The Erstwhile was a small class-9 interplanetary cargo carrier. It was armed with primitive laser weapons. The owner and operator of the Erstwhile was Captain Thadiun Okona.

In 2365, the Erstwhile experienced a burnout in its guidance system while traversing between the twin planets of the Omega Sagitta system. The ship would be intercepted by the Federation starship, Enterprise-D, which offered Okona assistance with his repairs. (TNG: "The Outrageous Okona")

The Erstwhile was a reuse of the Ornaran freighter, Sanction from "Symbiosis" (TNG).
