Errol Leslie Thompson Flynn, born in Tasmania, Australia, was a popular mid-20th century actor known for his saavy and heroic acting roles.
During the Bell Riots of 2024, B.C., hoping to leave the San Francisco Sanctuary District, wanted to escape to Tasmania, because it was the birthplace of Flynn, a man he apparently looked up to in life. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part II")
In attempt to help Nog's rehabilitation with his new biosynthetic leg, Vic Fontaine gave him a replica of a cane Errol Flynn once had. Vic did this in an attempt to ween Nog off of using a cane, which technically he did not need, because the Flynn cane was not as strong. This meant that Nog could not put his full weight on the cane as he was with his Starfleet issue cane.
Although a bit shorter than Flynn's cane, the replica Vic gave Nog possessed the same lion's head design, with a button on the back of the head that triggered a flame from the lion's mouth, which served as a lighter. To Nog, the cane was reminiscent of the Grand Nagus' staff. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon")
