An enzyme recorder was a type of bio-scanner that recorded the enzymes in a lifeform. Effective use of the recorder required readings on three different wavelengths of light.
In effort to destroy a giant space amoeba, and free the trapped USS Enterprise, a specially equipped shuttlecraft was required to penetrate the cell to find a way to destroy the amoeba.
