"I'm an expert in Klingon martial arts."
"Did you take it up before or after you were joined?"
"After."
"Why am I not surprised?"
– Jadzia Dax and Emony Dax (in Leeta's body), 2371 ("Facets")

Emony Dax was a female Trill and Olympic gymnast in the 23rd century. She was joined and become the third host of the Dax symbiont. She had one or more children. (DS9: "Facets", "The Nagus")

She found that her concentration and physical coordination in gymnastics improved after she was joined with Dax, despite her fears prior to joining that they would be adversely affected. (DS9: "Facets", "Rejoined", "Afterimage", "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")

In the 2240s, Emony was once on Earth to judge a gymnastics competition at the University of Mississippi, where she met Leonard McCoy. Years later, Dax would comment that she had a feeling that he would become a doctor – "he had the hands of a surgeon." (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")

Emony had the unusual habit of standing on her head to relax herself. Like most of the other hosts, however, she had no musical talent. (DS9: "Afterimage", "Equilibrium")

During Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara in 2371, Leeta embodied Emony's memories and personality. While in Leeta's body, Emony remarked it was an excellent body as she was able to perform gymnastics moves in it easily. Jadzia assured Emony that Leeta would appreciate the compliment. (DS9: "Facets")

A few months after being joined, Ezri Dax thought she was being overly emotional due to "the Emony" in her. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols")

Background information[]

Emony was played by Chase Masterson during Jadzia's zhian'tara.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 187) speculates that Emony and McCoy met around 2245, based on the fact that McCoy could not have yet entered medical school when they knew each other.

In the Lives of Dax short story Old Souls, McCoy's roommate, whose people have a long-standing feud with the Trill, attempts to kill Emony at the gymnastics competition, but another Trill steps in and takes the blow instead - McCoy is able to save his life, and the satisfaction he receives from doing so is the catalyst for his decision to become a doctor. In the story, Emony's pre-joining name is given as Emony Odaren.

According to the script for "Afterimage", her name was pronounced as "EM-oh-knee". [1]

Emony appeared in the Star Trek: Discovery novel Die Standing in 2020.
