An embargo, or trade embargo, is the prohibition of commerce and trade with a certain entity.

During the Coalition of Planets negotiations, Tellarites pushed for an embargo against trade with the Orions, though the Coridans would have nothing of it. (ENT: "Demons")

In 2366, Kyril Finn demanded that the Federation institute an embargo against the Rutia IV govermenent until they agreed to the Ansata demands. TNG: "The High Ground")

The Federation maintained a trade embargo against the Romulan Star Empire, most notoriously resulting in the illegality of Romulan ale.
