Elkanah J. Burns (born 25 October 1942; age 81) is the actor who appeared as Temarek in the Star Trek: The Next Generation third season episode "The Vengeance Factor".

Aside from Star Trek, he also played parts in an episode of Murder She Wrote (1988, with Clint Carmichael and Michael Horton) and in the horror sequel Alligator II: The Mutation (1991, with Richard Lynch, Brock Peters, Linda Fetters, Evelyn Guerrero, Kane Hodder, Tom Magee, Alan Marcus, Warren Stevens, and Gene LeBell).

Burns enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1960 and graduated with a B.S. in engineering from the US Naval Academy in 1966. He served as second lieutenant and as naval aviator, piloting A-4 Skyhawks in Vietnam in 1969. He left the Marine Corps in 1973 holding the rank of captain. In 1976 Burns received his Juris doctorate from the Antioch School of Law. Soon after this he founded the law firm Canan, Burns & O'Toole in Washington, D.C. and worked as managing partner until 1983. In 1986 he moved to Los Angeles, California and was working as an actor beside his work in his law firm. Burns served as the chairman of the board of directors of The Alliance Repertory Company in Burbank, California for five years. In 2008, Burns appeared as Mr. King in the short drama Somebody's Gonna Pay.
