Elasians are natives to the planet Elas and are governed by the Elasian Council of Nobles under the leadership of the Dohlman.

The Elasians were a relatively primitive people in terms of the Federation's standards, as they still wore body armor and utilized nuclear weapons and powered their vessels with nuclear propulsion units. Elasian interrogation techniques are more excrusiation than what the Federation is even capable of. They were also a demanding race; the Federation scientists who made the initial investigation reported the men were vicious and arrogant. The women are equally vicious, but have a kind of subtle mystical power that drives men wild known as Elasian tears.

The Elasians had been at war for many centuries with their neighbors, the Troyians. In 2268, the two planets had reached a point where they were capable of annihilating one another. In order to establish a common ground, Elaan, the Dohlman of Elas, was to marry the ruler of Troyius as a gesture of peace between the two planets. (TOS: "Elaan of Troyius")
