The ECS Fortunate, a Y-class freighter.
The ECS Fortunate (ECS-2801) was a Y-class freighter of the 22nd century Earth Cargo Service. The Fortunate was commanded by Captain Keene, Matthew Ryan served as her first officer prior to 2151.
The Fortunate had been operated by the Keene family for three generations. In a discussion with Jonathan Archer, Captain Keene theorized that with the onset of faster starships, he would need to upgrade to at least a warp three engine to stay in business.
One of the Fortunates' last stops before its eight month journey was at Jupiter Station. There, the stations cargo handlers improperly balanced the load of the Module 2. Ryan and Shaw would later have to reorganize the load to compensate for the noticeable shaking caused by the module being off-balance.
For several months throughout 2151, the Fortunate was attacked by Nausicaan pirate ships, under the intent of stealing the ships' cargo.
In one attack, the Fortunate was damaged and Captain Keene injured, one of the Nausicaans was captured in the process. Ryan led the ship on a mission of revenge, which led to his later demotion. (ENT: "Fortunate Son")
