A duonetic field, while a form of energy itself, was a field that inhibits energy flow and was capable of disabling virtually all 24th century Federation technology in a large area. It could be caused naturally by the presence of astatine, or artificially created by a small generator.

Alixus, a philosopher who was against the use of technology, once used an artificially generated duonetic field to strand herself and her community on a remote planet in order to "cure" them of what she perceived to be their over-reliance on technology. (DS9: "Paradise")
