Real World article
(written from a Production point of view)

Doug Brode is an artist and illustrator who designed props and weapons for 2009's Star Trek. Among the props he designed for the film was the new tricorder. He is described as an "adamant Trekkie" and, as such, was also a technical adviser on the film. [1]

Brode has worked with property master Russell Bobbitt as a prop illustrator on such films as Planet of the Apes (2001), Starsky & Hutch (2004), and Iron Man (2008). Bobbitt considers Brode to be his "ace-in-the-hole designer." They also collaborated on Star Trek; it was Bobbitt who requested that Brode design a new tricorder for the film.

Brode is also a writer. He wrote the 1997 mystery film Midnight Blue, which starred Dean Stockwell and Cyril O'Reilly. He also created the erotic science fiction series Forbidden Science, which was greenlit on Brode's last day at work on Star Trek. [2]
