Lieutenant Dickerson was a security officer serving aboard the USS Enterprise.

Dickerson was the officer who announced the arrival of Abraham Lincoln in 2269, following Lincolns discovery by the USS Enterprise near the planet Excalbia. (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")

Background

Dickerson was played by actor Arell Blanton. Dickerson appeared to be among the highest echelons of security officers aboard the Enterprise at that time. It is also possible that he was the ship's chief of security in 2269, which would raise the question of what happened to the ship's previous security chief, Lieutenant Commander Giotto.

Dickerson wore a Starfleet dress uniform reused from a previous episode, where the decorations and braid at the collar represented a lieutenant commander. Dickerson was addressed as "lieutenant", so either the lieutenant and lt. cmdr. dress uniforms have the same braid, or Kirk was incorrect in not addressing him as "commander" or "lieutenant commander". A lieutenant's dress uniform had a similar braid, but lieutenants did not wear their decorations and medals -- lieutenants in dress uniform wore their assignment patch.
