Template:Realworld Richard "Dick" Brownfield worked, while employed by Desilu Productions and as part of Jim Rugg's team, on the special effects throughout the run of Star Trek: The Original Series, including the first pilot episode "The Cage". Subsequently, in the employment of Paramount Television, he worked in the same capacity on the entire run of Star Trek: The Next Generation. When The Next Generation ended, he moved on to Star Trek: Voyager and worked on the first four seasons of the series. He was also the special effects coordinator for the 1996 video game Star Trek: Borg.
Captain Dick Brownfield was named for him and appeared on a number of dedication plaques for various starships.
Beside his work on Star Trek, Brownfield created special effects for the television drama The Triangle Factory Fire Scandal (1979) and the horror sequel The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1985, with Michael Berryman and Penny Johnson and special effects artist Mark Stimson) and worked as special effects coordinator on Robert Duncan McNeill's short film 9mm of Love (2000, with Ethan Phillips, Liz Vassey, Patricia Tallman, editor Daryl Baskin, assistant directors Michael Risner and David Trotti, and special effects artist Mark Stimson).
Browsfield has been featured in the 1995 documentary, Star Trek: Voyager - Inside the New Adventure.
