Diamagnetic storm

A diamagnetic storm

A diamagnetic storm was an extremely powerful weather phenomenon characterized by high levels of polaric energy, and capable of producing dangerous polaric discharges.

In 2152, Enterprise NX-01 officers Charles Tucker and Hoshi Sato encountered such a storm on the surface of a planet, while investigating ancient ruins. As the polarized hull plating of their shuttlepod would have most likely attracted a polaric discharge, the two were forced to rely on the transporter to return to the ship. While Commander Tucker managed to beam aboard without incident, the storm interfered with the transporter's function while Sato was in the process of beaming, trapping her matter stream in the pattern buffer for a period of seconds, although Lieutenant Malcolm Reed was ultimately able to overcome the difficulty.
