Dexter Remmick

Dexter Remmick

Lieutenant Commander Dexter Remmick was an officer of the Inspector General's office, when he beamed aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2364 with Admiral Gregory Quinn to conduct a thorough investigation of the vessel. The nature of the investigation was kept secret, and this uncertainty drove tensions very high on the ship. Remmick questioned the Enterprise senior staff at length, asking them about the apparent unfitness of Captain Jean-Luc Picard for command. Despite the crew's strong objections, he seemed to be intent on finding problems with Picard and his command. His final report, however, was one of praise, claiming nothing was wrong with the Enterprise.

After delivering his report to Admiral Quinn, Remmick said he would like to serve aboard the Enterprise after the completion of his service at the Inspector General's office. (TNG: "Coming of Age")

Remmick aftermath

The end of Dexter Remmick

A few months later, when the Enterprise returned to Earth, Remmick was being transferred to Starfleet Command. He had apparently been transferred there by alien infiltrators, who had compromised the Federation. It was determined that Remmick's body was host to the neural parasite mother creature, and he was eventually killed by Captain Picard and his first officer William Riker when two direct phaser blasts, set on full power, blew off Remmick's head and half of his torso.

By destroying the mother creature, they killed all the other parasites as well. Shortly before Remmick's death, however, the mother creature had been able to send out a homing beacon, but none of the species answered it - yet. (TNG: "Conspiracy")
