A dessert was any one of numerous forms of edible confections usually following a dinner or a supper. These confections could also follow a lunch. Desserts usually contained sucrose, or other forms of sugars.

Deanna Troi once described desserts as something that were usually very sweet, usually very bad for you, eaten purely for pleasure and the best part of any meal. (TNG: "Liaisons")

When Vulcan Captain Vanik commented on the dinner prepared for him aboard Enterprise NX-01 that he already ate something as reason he was not touching his pok tar, Captain Jonathan Archer replied, "Hope you saved room for dessert". (ENT: "Breaking the Ice")

The script of the episode describes the moment when Quark discovers Nilva's intentions are amorous as realizing "that he's Nilva's dessert of choice".
