The Vulcan desert flyer was a common sight in and around Vulcan cities during the 2230s. Its primary use was for personal transport and it was related to the hovercar.
In 2237, Spock and a Vulcan healer transported to a site in the L-langon Mountains in a desert flyer to attend to Spock's ailing sehlat I-Chaya. (TAS: "Yesteryear")
When writing the script of "Yesteryear", D.C. Fontana asked that the desert flyer be "not saucer shaped, please." The script also describes the craft as "a streamlined skimmer" and "large enough to carry several passengers".
