Sherwood Forest

...as Sherwood Forest

Descanso Gardens is a botanical garden located at 1419 Descanso Drive, La Cañada, California, USA.

In 1991 the production of Star Trek: The Next Generation used this location for a one day location shooting on Tuesday 12 February 1991 for the fourth season episode "Qpid". The 25-acre California Live Oak Forest with its towering 150-year old oaks stood in as Sherwood Forest.

Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, John de Lancie, and Clive Revill were directed by Cliff Bole. Stunt coordinator Dennis Madalone coordinated the fight sequence with the stunt doubles Rusty McClennon and Ken Lesco. Also present on this location shooting were stand-ins Dennis Tracy, Richard Sarstedt, Tim McCormack, Lorine Mendell, Nora Leonhardt, Brett, Michael Echols, Guy Vardaman, and James Williams, background performers Perceval, Auriano, Greg Mazzy, Seals, Steele, and Larry Clardy as well as animal handlers for the horses.

The call sheet for this day features the notes "Do not arrive before 6:00 a.m." and "Sunrise at 6:41 a.m. and Sunset at 5:34 p.m." Movieland Caterers provided 115 hot lunches at 12:00 noon.

In 1994, Descanso Gardens was used to represent the Gamma Quadrant planet in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine second season episode "The Jem'Hadar". (Deep Space Nine Chronicles)
