Denorios belt

The Denorios belt.

The Denorios belt was a charged plasma field located in the Bajoran planetary system. This belt divided the system into an inner system and an outer system. It was located between Bajor IX and Bajor X. It had long been a navigational hazard for local shipping. (DS9: "Emissary", "If Wishes Were Horses"; set decoration)

The belt sometimes under went violent plasma disruptions and ion storms. (DS9: "Invasive Procedures", "Explorers")

Ancient Bajorans had to travel through the Denorios belt to get to Cardassia Prime in lightships. In 2371, Benjamin Sisko and Jake Sisko proved this was possible. (DS9: "Explorers")

The Bajoran poet Akorem Laan disappeared in the Belt in 2172 following an ion storm. After a brief stint in the future, the Prophets returned him no worse for wear and with no direct memory of his journey through time or encountering the Celestial Temple. Also in the 22nd century, a ship carrying Kai Taluno was disabled for several days in the Belt. Following his rescue, Taluno claimed that the "heavens opened up" and nearly consumed his vessel. (DS9: "Emissary", "Accession")

For many years, the Belt was prone to severe neutrino disturbances in a localized area without explanation. Five of the Orbs were found in that area. (DS9: "Emissary")

In addition, the script from Emissary suggests that in 2337, a vessel of unknown origin was discovered there, carrying a member of a previously unencountered species.

All of these incidents were explained in 2369, when, inside the belt, the first stable wormhole known to exist was discovered by Commander Benjamin Sisko and Lieutenant Jadzia Dax. Shortly thereafter, the space station Deep Space 9 was moved from Bajor's orbit to its present position in the Belt, some 20,000 kilometers from the newly-discovered anomaly. (DS9: "Emissary")

In late 2374, Jadzia Dax ran a spectral scan on a comet that was passing through the belt. She had waited three weeks for it to enter the belt. (DS9: "Time's Orphan")
