Lithium cracking station located on Delta Vega.
Delta Vega is a uninhabited planet located near the galactic barrier. During the mid-23rd century, it was the site of a distant Federation lithium cracking station. The planet is, at most, visited by ore ships every twenty years.
When the USS Enterprise suffered warp drive damage from crossing the galactic barrier in 2265, it limped to Delta Vega so that engineer Lee Kelso could make repairs. By the time of their arrival, the danger posed by Gary Mitchell - who had been affected by the barrier - was undeniable, and Kirk planned to maroon his old friend on the planet. Mitchell objected, escaped, and fled into the hills of Delta Vega. Kirk tracked him, and with the help of Elizabeth Dehner, was able to kill him. The remains of both Mitchell and Dehner were left behind on Delta Vega, and they were noted for giving their lives in the line of duty. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
- Delta Vega was also mentioned as a small note on a very large star chart graphic created for TNG:"Conspiracy." It was the image behind the chair in the room where Dexter Remmick was killed. In TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise," Delta Vega was listed again, in an alternate timeline, in a tactical situation monitor showing progress of the Klingons in their war with the Federation. It is not clear if the name "Delta Vega" (seemingly written in stellar notation) should also apply to the star the planet orbits.
