(written from a Production point of view)
Del Rey Books is a publishing company that began as the specific science fiction and fantasy imprint of Ballantine Books in 1977, under the editorial auspices of Judy-Lynn del Rey (for science fiction) and her husband Lester (for fantasy). The first novel published was The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, and under the guidance of the Del Reys, the imprint grew into a full publishing company, ultimately splitting off from the parent publishing house. It is now part of Random House along with Bantam Dell, the amalgam of Bantam Books and Dell Publishing.
They published a number of Star Trek related books, including Star Trek Logs omnibus reprints in 1993, the 40th anniversary printing of Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual in 2006, Leonard Nimoy's I Am Not Spock, The Making of Star Trek, and The Trouble with Tribbles. Most of these were reprints of titles published under the original Ballantine imprint.
