D. Maltese was a 23rd century Starfleet captain attached to the Starfleet Academy's Starfleet Training Command. Maltese served as instructor for beam technology.
In 2285, Maltese was listed on a directory placard found on the second level of Starfleet Training Command. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
Maltese was named after set designer Daniel Maltese.
