D.H. Lawrence was a Human novelist and noted figure in 20th century English literature on Earth. (VOY: "In the Flesh")

In 1986, James T. Kirk (having time traveled from 2286) quoted Lawrence, saying "They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains the hottest blood of all" to Gillian Taylor. Taylor recognized these lines from Lawrence's poem Whales Weep Not!. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
