Cryptography was a section aboard the USS Enterprise, responsible for decoding enemy transmissions.

In 2266, Cryptography was assigned the task of decoding a Romulan transmission from a Bird-of-Prey which the Enterprise had been shadowing. (TOS: "Balance of Terror")
