A cortical implant was a device used to interface directly with the mind of a humanoid.

The Breen employed a type of cortical implant to probe the minds of their prisoners, with unpleasant mental and physical side effects. These devices were used to interrogate Worf and Ezri Dax in late 2375. (DS9: "'Til Death Do Us Part")

Tieran, former Autarch of the Ilari, used a cortical implant as part of a mechanism to transfer his consciousness into different host bodies to extend his life span. (VOY: "Warlord")

Borg drones were equipped with cortical implants, also known as microcortical implants. A drone could potentially evade Borg sensors by remodulating the cortical implant. (VOY: "Survival Instinct")

In 2375, while traversing the Void, Seven of Nine suggested Borg regeneration to Tuvok as a more efficient alternative to meditation, with the caveat that a simple cortical implant would be required. (VOY: "Night")

Seven's visual processor and motor cortex both worked in conjunction with her cortical implant, which she felt was malfunctioning when she experienced being drunk for the first time. (VOY: "Timeless")

The neural patterns of individuals assimilated by the Collective were stored within the cortical implants of drones. In 2375, a vinculum infected by Species 6339's synthetic pathogen tapped into Seven of Nine's cortical implant and caused these patterns to emerge, resulting in a condition similar to multiple personality disorder. (VOY: "Infinite Regress")

In 2376, The Doctor removed the microcortical implants of former drones Lansor, P'Chan, and Marika Wilkarah at their request, breaking the neural link between them that had been created by Seven of Nine years earlier. However, the neural link had become tied to their higher brain functions, and so they survived no more than a month afterwards. (VOY: "Survival Instinct")

Later that year, Seven of Nine experimented with downloading data collected by USS Voyager directly into her cortical implant through her alcove. However, there was too much information for her brain to process, and she began drawing spurious connections and forming conspiracy theories as a result. (VOY: "The Voyager Conspiracy")

The cortical implant in Borg drones may be the same device as the cortical node.
