The core hatch is the entrance to the engineering core on the USS Enterprise. Chief Engineer Scott was trapped by the core hatch door when the magnetic organism took over the ship in 2269. He was protected from being crushed by the force field of his life support belt until a cutter beam could be used to free him. (TAS: "Beyond the Farthest Star")
