A containment module was a modular device for isolating material from its surroundings. Each had atmospheric control, including temperature, radiation, light, humidity, plus electrical spectrums.
In 2365, newly-promoted Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge created five hundred and twelve containment modules to hold dangerous specimens of plasma plague. (TNG: "The Child")
