Columnar cells (or columnar epithelia) were epithelial cells whose heights were at least four times their width.

In 2369, Doctor Julian Bashir noted while performing an autopsy on Hon'Tihl that the membrane permeability in his columnar cells was off, suggesting that a problem with them may have led to his death. (DS9: "Dramatis Personae")
