The Columbus (NCC-1701⁄2) was a Federation Class F shuttlecraft that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-23rd century, attached to the USS Enterprise.
In 2267, the Columbus participated in the search for the lost shuttlecraft Galileo on Taurus II. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")
A year later, the shuttle Columbus was in the shuttlebay when the Galileo transporting Ambassador Sarek and his entourage landed. (TOS: "Journey to Babel")

In TOS, the appearance of the Columbus was a reuse of the footage of the Galileo. It was named after the 15th/16th century Earth explorer Christopher Columbus.
The Columbus was later created as a CGI by CBS Digital. First appearance of this model occurred in "The Journey to Babel" when the Galileo landed in the Enterprise shuttlebay. The registry of the shuttle was seen in this episode, matching the number first assigned to the vessel by the 1970s publication Star Trek Maps.
