A code reader
A code reader is a scanner like device used to read the bar-coded labels on cargo which contained name and adress of the recipient.
In 2369 Jake Sisko used a code reader to identify the Bajoran who originally ordered the 100 gross self-sealing stem bolts. (DS9: "Progress")
