A Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a small domesticated avian animal native to Earth.

A hen is a female chicken, known for being closely protective of its eggs. One time when Captain Picard went on an away mission, Commander Riker strongly urged him to stay on the ship where it was safe. Captain Picard clucked at him (the sound a chicken makes), told him to "stop being a mother hen." (TNG: "Loud As A Whisper")

In 2365, the Enterprise-D rescued several dozen colonists from Bringloid V, along with their many farm animals, which included several chickens. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder")

Chicken meat, and their eggs, are widely eaten on Earth, and are a main component of many Human foods.

Porthos' favorite food was chicken liver with grated cheese. When Captain Archer was thought to be missing, he wouldn't eat it when Dr. Phlox tried to feed it to him. (ENT: "Storm Front")

Tom Paris said the preserved food by Neelix tasted more like chicken when USS Voyager was in The Void. (VOY: "The Void")
