A chainsaw is a mechanical device used on Earth for cutting. Other planets also utilized such as a device, even for rituals.
Captain Jonathan Archer had to use a chainsaw to chop up the trunk of an alvera tree as part of a Kreetassan apologetic ritual in 2152. (ENT: "A Night in Sickbay")
It is not known if the Kreetassans supplied the chainsaw or if the crew of Enterprise had one aboard, as Hoshi Sato was not sure if they had one available.
