Lieutenant Commander Cavit was a Starfleet officer in the 24th century who, in 2371, was assigned as first officer of the USS Voyager, under Captain Kathryn Janeway.

Along with Voyager's chief medical officer, Cavit displayed contempt for Tom Paris, believing that, due to Paris's criminal past, he did not deserve to be onboard. Later, as Voyager was searching the Badlandss for Chakotay's Maquis raider, Cavit manned the tactical station in Commander Tuvok's absence. When Voyager was subsequently pulled into the Delta Quadrant by a massive displacement wave, Cavit was killed in the resultant impact. (VOY: "Caretaker")
